A registered portfolio identity
The Company of Extraordinary Companies is the portfolio-level identity through which its distinct houses can be brought together, developed and stewarded with shared discipline. It provides a clear public point of reference while allowing each house to keep its own name, character, history and direction.
The Company is a parent identity for the portfolio. It is not the name of an incorporated parent company or corporate group. The portfolio is operated by Barry Roberts, who is also the registered owner of the trade mark.
What the Company brings together
The portfolio brings together five autonomous houses: Sampson Mordan, Links London, Roberts & Co., Leuchars and English Art Works.
They are related by standards and disciplines rather than by a requirement to look or speak alike. Across the portfolio, the Company supports clearer governance, evidence-led public claims and the careful development of shared capabilities in British manufacture, commerce, restoration, research and presentation.
Development and stewardship
The Company exists to create the conditions in which its houses can develop for the long term. That work includes setting portfolio standards, protecting boundaries between houses, coordinating shared resources where they add value and preserving the authority of each house.
It also means recognising that new work and earlier work require different forms of care. Manufacture calls for discipline in material, proportion, finish and use. Stewardship calls for accurate records, restraint and respect for what evidence can—and cannot—support.

The registration records THE COMPANY OF EXTRAORDINARY COMPANIES as a word mark in Class 35, effective from 18 June 2026 and entered on the UK register on 18 September 2026.
It is an important institutional milestone for the portfolio. It does not amount to an endorsement by the UK Intellectual Property Office of the Company, its houses, their activities or any product or public claim.
